Mt. San Jacinto College’s accreditation was confirmed in January 2006, after the submission of the Self Study Report to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC). MSJC was reaccredited with the ACCJC visiting team citing seven areas of concern and detailing specific areas where improvement was required.

Following the direction of the ACCJC, Mt. San Jacinto College has submitted several required reports addressing the seven recommendations. Over the last three years, MSJC has submitted the following reports, all of which were accepted by the ACCJC:

During this past year, MSJC has been working on completing an additional follow-up report to illustrate the institution’s progress relative to Recommendation #2:

A Follow-Up Report is a report requested by the Commission for special purposes. It can occur at any time in the 6-year accreditation cycle. A Follow-Up Report requires that the institution provide information, evidence, and analysis regarding the resolution of the issues to which it was directed by the Commission's Action Letter. The institution's report will be reviewed by the Commission at its next regularly scheduled meeting in January 2011 and the institution will be notified as to what action, if any, it must take next.

Through the work of various shared governance committees (including the Institutional Planning Committee, Assessment Council, and Budget Development Committee) as well as the Accreditation Steering Committee – the Accreditation Liaison Officer compiled and edited the final follow-up report. The 2010 follow-up report was presented to the Board of Trustees as an informational item at its September 9, 2010 meeting. The final report was approved by the Board of Trustees at the October 14, 2010 meeting.

Once the report is submitted, a site visit will accompany the Follow-Up Report submission. Site visits are normally one-day visits by a team of two members, typically the chair of the comprehensive evaluation team familiar with the issues confronting the institution and a member of the Commission or Commission staff. The team is appointed by the Commission and reviewed by the institution in order to avoid potential conflicts of interest.
